Participants will be trained in the fundamentals of low and high challenge course facilitation. Low course topics covered include: team building theory and small group problem-solving skills, new games and initiatives, briefing and debriefing techniques, low course elements and safety protocols. Also to be held March 3 5-9 p.m. in Gym East, March 22 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the UGA outdoor challenge course, March 31 5-9 p.m. in Gym East and April 5 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the UGA outdoor challenge course.Focus will be on educating participants about the issues involved in safely and effectively facilitating/leading a group on a challenge course. High course topics covered include: belay skills, belay rope/equipment maintenance, knots, high dynamic and static course elements and related safety protocols. Participants will complete a high course rescue scenario. Focus will be on educating participants about the issues involved in safely and effectively guiding individuals on a high challenge course. Lunch will be provided on Saturday class meetings.Training fills up on a first-come, first-serve basis and waiting lists will be kept. There is a 24 person limit to this training.
No experience necessary. Participants should dress for active, outdoor-oriented activities and bring something to take notes with each day. Closed-toed shoes required.
