This legendary Athens band made its mark in the early 90’s with two Michael Stipe and Willie Dixon produced records: White Dirt and 8 Track Stomp and a rockin’-stompin’ live show that earned them adoring fans all over the world. Dubbed “swamp rock” their unique sound owes in large part to their inventive approach to instrumentation, with Brant Slay playing the rockin’ chair and stomp box (yeah that’s right), washboard, cowbells and tin cans, combined with Ben Reynolds’ frenetic blues guitar riffs. Alan "Lumpy" Cowart, drummer of the legendary Jacksonville, Florida band The Beggar Weeds (also Stipe-produced), recently joined the band and is no stranger to the Mudd Puppies sound, having shared many bills while on tour with them back in the day. The Chickasaw Mudd Puppies drag old-timey porch music kicking and screaming into the 21st Century.
