The concept of a MOOC first emerged from Canada in 2007 when two scholars offered a free online course focused on “Connectivism and Connective Knowledge” to a few fee-paying students at the University of Manitoba and more than 2,000 interested learners from around the world. Today, MOOCs may “enroll” tens of thousands of students in a single course. Commercial and not-for-profit MOOC enterprises including Udacity, Coursera, edX, and the Khan Academy have garnered much media attention with representation from faculty and entrepreneurs at elite institutions such as Stanford, Harvard, and M.I.T. This panel will share personal experiences and discuss the implications of MOOCs for faculty, students, and administrators at UGA and other institutions in our state.  CTL Speaker Series - Spring 2013
