Description:
Wild edible plants are numerous, bountiful and (usually) free! This course will begin by walking through the trail system at the Garden identifying foods in the wild. During the afternoon, we will focus on how to prepare simple yet delicious dishes with these foods. Focusing on the many spring greens and fresh shoots, we will also consider the (few) truly "dangerous" plants to avoid. Bring a camera and notepad to record identifications! This workshop is good for beginners or more experienced gatherers, covering at least a couple dozen species and will include discussions of sustainable harvesting techniques, the ethics of foraging, issues surrounding pollution and safety and how to encourage these plants into your own yards and gardens. Dress comfortably for an extended walk.
