As one of the co-founders of Yale/Stanford Johnson Global Health Scholar Program she has sent more than 1,000 physcians overseas to underserved areas to help strengthen health infrastructure in low resource settings. The Global Diseases: Voices from the Vanguard lecture series is a joint effort of Patricia Thomas, Knight Chair in Health and Medical Journalism at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and Dan Colley, professor of microbiology and director of UGA's Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases. Additional lectures in the series are Feb. 11, Mar. 18 and Apr. 8.
