Description:
Corresponding with an upper-level art history course taught by chief curator Paul Manoguerra, "Americans in Italy" features art objects dealing with Italian landscapes, people, buildings and life yet fashioned by American artists. As a result of their Italian travels within a “Grand Tour” or as expatriates, many American painters created a body of work addressing seminal questions about nature, history and national destiny. This special, small display draws from works, especially works on paper usually in storage, in the permanent collection of the Georgia Museum of Art and makes connections to objects on full-time display elsewhere in the permanent collection wing.
